Can baking soda be used in cancer treatment?

I've heard that baking soda might have some role in treating cancer and I'm curious about this. Can baking soda be used in cancer treatment, and what do medical professionals say about its safety and efficacy?

Sodium bicarbonate, commonly known as baking soda, was originally proposed as a potential treatment for cancer by Dr. Tullio Simoncini, an oncologist based in Rome.  According to Dr. Simoncini, cancer is like a fungal infection, and sodium bicarbonate, being a powerful antifungal substance, can effectively treat it. He suggested that cancers, fueled by glucose, create an acidic environment that protects them from the immune system. Sodium bicarbonate, being alkaline, can neutralize this acidity and make cancer cells more sensitive to treatment. The approach involves administering sodium bicarbonate locally, targeting the tumor directly. This can be done through various routes such as oral administration, inhalation, enemas, or even specific arteries.  Studies have shown promising results when sodium bicarbonate is combined with other cancer treatments. For example, combining it with chemoembolization or liposomes filled with sodium bicarbonate has improved the effectiveness of chemotherapy drugs in fighting cancer cells.  However, more research is needed to fully understand the potential of sodium bicarbonate as a cancer treatment and its integration with other therapies.
