Is DMSO harmful to humans?

I've been reading about DMSO and I'm worried about its safety. Is DMSO harmful to humans, and what are the potential side effects or risks of using it?

DMSO has been studied in humans and found to have some mild side effects, which include headache, nausea, dizziness, dry skin, drowsiness, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, breathing problems, allergic reactions and a garlic-like smell.

Current research has shown that limiting the dosage can almost completely mitigate these symptoms, except for the garlic-like smell, which many patients experienced regardless of dosage.
