I have been diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer in 2017, received standard chemotherapy with Folfirinox and following progression of my tumors I've been treated with Abraxane/Gemcitabine, unfortunately this just worked for 4 months and my tumor markers started to climb again. My maximum CA19-9 was 45000. At that point, a friend of mine mentioned the Hallwang Clinic. After several discussions with the oncology team there, I decided to give them a chance, anyways I had no other chance than being put on another chemotherapy that would have been nal-IRI. I also had contact to other clinics in Germany and in Mexico and realized that most of the clinics are run by non-oncologists, so at least I was sure not to miss any important aspects of a comprehensive therapy by choosing an open-minded but specialized oncology center. I had my liver metastasis evaluated for genetic markers that revealed a BRCA1 mutation. Given that this was quite new in the field, I felt blessed to have had a chance to get this cancer mutation targeted. After just few weeks under the genetic targeted therapy and in combination with a targeted and specific immunotherapy, including a tri-functional antibody my tumor marker has been re-evaluated and showed a drop to 28000. Just after a months the tumor marker was down to 8000. I was that curious that I performed a CTZ scan after 6 weeks that revealed a tumor burden reduction of more than 75%. Yes, 75% in such a short time period!! I was thrilled! This scan is now 6 months ago, I I’m currently under immunotherapy maintenance with a survivin targeted immunotherapy. The genetic targeted therapy I was able to pause. And thanks to the complimentary part of my therapies I have tolerated all therapies without any major side effects. I’m 56 years old and can live a normal life. I’m not sure how long but I’m happy to be able to see the upcoming time with more peace and I’m extremely thankful to have been lead to the Hallwang Clinic. The team there has changed my life completely.

After having a bowel resection to remove the primary colorectal tumour and subsequent standard chemotherapy treatments I was given a terminal diagnosis in the UK. My wife came across the Hallwang Clinic whilst searching for other treatments on the Internet. We sent my cancer file to the Oncologists at the Clinic and they confirmed that they could offer me treatments which could improve my condition. I traveled to the clinic within days and started on immunotherapy and chemotherapy which would not be funded in the UK. After four months my scan results showed upto a 50% reduction in the tumours in my lungs. 15 months down the line and I am still under the guidance of the Oncologist at Hallwang and he consults me on my current treatment plan.
I can honestly say that I would not be hear today if I didn’t go to the Hallwang Clinic. The facilities, medical and administration staff are all brilliant with a real positive atmosphere and approach to cancer treatment.

After being given a prognosis of 3 to 18 months with no treatment options in May 2015 by the UK's NHS, i heard about immunotherapy in 2016. I found it had been used successfully on my condition in the U.S. so was keen to try it. I was refused immunotherapy in the UK (NHS or private treatment) then heard about the Hallwang Clinic in January 2017.
I contacted them, discussed my condition and they requested my tissue samples from previous surgery. After analysis they told me there was a good chance immunotherapy would work on me.
I attended the clinic from March until June 2017 and was treated with Pembrolizumab, Ipilimumab and a vaccine (designed to attack the protein survivin which my cancer expressed).
I was close to death when I arrived in March 2017 having had no treatment since November 2014, I was full of tumours; 2 in my brain, in every major organ except my lungs and liver and throughout my lymphatic system. After a course of treatment, in July 2017 a PET CT scan showed I was 95% clear of cancer.
I am only alive today because of the skills and professionalism of the staff at The Hallwang Clinic, I cannot express how grateful I am to them.
I have now survived 5 years from diagnosis of metastasis when the mean prognosis is less than 2 years. Hardly anybody in the UK survives more than 3 years.
My results from treatment at the clinic have enabled me to receive similar treatment in the UK from the NHS although at the moment I still have to fund this myself. If only the NHS was as knowledgeable and up to date as The Hallwang Clinic.

I was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma 6 years ago. At that time I was given a less than 50% survival at 5 years. I initially was treated with surgery when my melanoma returned and then oral medication that was new to the market here in the U.S. I was told at the time this new medication works on most patients but 95% do have a re-occurrence within a year. At that point my wife (retired physician) researched foreign clinics and that's when she recommended Hallwang to see if they could suggest anything that might improve my odds. Dr. Nolting, their medical director suggested a couple of investigational treatments such as vaccines and anti GD2. At this point I wasn't really sick or had any evidence of disease (CT scan every 3 months) but I wanted to stay that way and prevent progression of disease. It's much easier to treat a low burden of disease rather than waiting until I had something serious such as a brain tumor. My oncologist (and my wife) thought Hallwang's treatment although unproven made sense scientifically. I am well into my third year of that medication from my oncologist at home that 95% of melanoma patients become resistant to with a year. I honestly can't say which treatment is keeping me healthy or if it's a combination of the U.S. and Hallwang treatments. I'm not willing to stop any of it right now. I have cut my Hallwang visits to 3 times a year from 4.
A few words about the clinic and staff and what to expect. Don't expect off the wall treatments such as a holistic medicine approach I've seen at other clinics. Although they do some of these things but this isn't their focus. Every time I'm at the clinic I meet and talk to many of the patients with a variety of cancers and degrees of severity. Many patients come to Hallwang because at home they are only offered only hospice. Many of the drugs I see being used are conventional cancer treatments but might not be offered to you at home for the cancer you have. It usually is because their health system at home will only pay for certain drugs for a particular type of cancer even if it might work in yours. At Hallwang there are no restrictions--except cost. They do charge about the same or less as a U.S. hospital if one was paying out of pocket and didn't have insurance.

The hospital is small and one gets one on one care. There is always a doctor and nurses in the clinic 24/7. Expect the same type of care you would get at a hospital in the U.S. or U.K. etc. in terms of sterile technique, labs, equipment, treating potential emergencies, etc. The nursing staff are all excellent, but as important very nice--I know all of them by name (they have very little turnover). They not only know your name but remember key information from your chart. The ratio of nurses to patients is very low. The physicians are all oncology trained. Dr. Nolting has excellent judgement and even did some of his training at Dana Farber which is a Harvard Hospital. I forgot to mention the food is very good and I'm a picky eater. The chef will make what ever you want, but I usually get the daily special.

You won't get false promises of a cure. You will get leading edge care and treatment, and improved odds of a longer and healthier life. I can't say I like going there--getting stuck with needles, hyperthermia not fun, the travel 3 or 4 times a year to Europe, but something in my entire treatment plan is working and I'm not ready to alter that.
